Talk about a badass! Jess is so strong and works so hard. It’s so fun to workout alongside her and share a barbell. We love how much CrossFit has become such a big part of her life! Here’s her CrossFit story…
“I started CrossFit 2.5 years ago here at CrossFit in Duvall with intentions of just getting healthier and putting myself first which is very difficult for me. After working as an RN in the ED and the ICU during the pandemic, I needed an outlet for all the things. I did have some experience with lifting and considered myself as an athlete, but I was quite a novice to CrossFit. I joke that one of the first classes I took to was “CHAD” and boy was I not prepared for that one!!! I remember asking Corey, “What is CHAD?” and the look on her face was utter surprise and terror…. and then the look on my face was completely disheveled when she told me. Needless to say I got through my first CHAD, and started to look at the workout beforehand! After committing myself more to the program and to myself, I have become addicted and love coming to class each day.
If you haven’t noticed yet, I have a dark sense of humor, and mostly people who work in healthcare can probably appreciate it. I laugh that I am sometimes the “awkward” mom on the playground, and my sense of belonging tends to be with my co-workers because they “get it.” I now feel a sense of belonging here at CrossFit Big Rock, and I cherish the friendships and connections I have made with fellow members because they too “get it”. Between all the burpees, squats, cleans, and box jumps CrossFit has gotten me out of a dark time in life. I now see the light each and every day (mostly when I walk out of class and pray to the heavens I don’t kill over after a workout…. *see dark sense of humor*). I am also a mom to two kids, Gwen (13) and Leiv (11), wife to a very hard-working man who is probably the better parent between both of us, Tyler, and dog lover to my Yellow Labrador, Lilly. I can talk for days about my Bronco (Ursula) and feel free to ask me about the Rebelle Rally that I am training for with her.”
